A community carol service inspired by Princess Kate’s “Together at Christmas” has made its way onto the set of Coronation Street.

The Prince and Princess of Wales highlighted the ceremony on their social media.

They wrote: “A truly special Community Carol Service in Manchester, uniting people from across the city in an iconic setting.

“Each year, the Community Carol Services, supported by The Royal Foundation, bring the ‘Together at Christmas’ spirit to communities around the UK, celebrating local champions, as well as the love and connection that bind us together.

“Thank you to everyone who helped bring this festive spirit to the Coronation Street cobbles.”

A video summary of the event featured several performances, including dancing and bagpipe music.

Letters from the Princess of Wales were also distributed to attendees.

Long-standing cast member Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster in Corrie, said: “Unity and connection are so important, and things like this are really important to bring people together.”

Patti Clare, who plays Mary Taylor in the soap, said the atmosphere was “so joyful, we were all getting giddy”.

Elle Mulvaney, who acts as Amy Barlow, explained: “Corrie is the best place to celebrate community because that is what the show is all about.

“It’s just all about that togetherness and love that we feel at this time of year.”

The service, which is one of many happening up and down the country, is inspired by Princess Kate’s Together at Christmas Carol Service, which was held on December 5.

The Princess of Wales was joined by Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis at Westminster Abbey for the fifth annual Together At Christmas Carol Service.

Princess Kate has spearheaded the event, which is backed by The Royal Foundation.

This year’s service centred on celebrating love in its many forms, from familial bonds and friendships to community spirit and acts of kindness between strangers.

The congregation of 1,600 guests included individuals from throughout the United Kingdom who have given their time to support others, launched community-building projects, or extended help to those in need.

The Westminster Abbey choir performed beloved traditional carols, while an impressive roster of musical talent took to the stage.

Zak Abel, Katie Melua and Cornish folk group Fisherman’s Friends were among the headline performers, joined by Dan Smith and Griff.

Young talent also featured prominently in the evening’s programme.

Platinum Performing Arts, a community organisation based in Edmonton, North London, showcased its young performers during the service.
