Keeping active in the winter months is one of the toughest tasks for someone to do but the benefits of exercising are significant in achieving a healthy weight.
A series of experts spoke to GB News explaining the health benefits of cycling and how it can help people lose weight.
Ex-professional cyclist and founder of Le Col, Yanto Barker, said: “Cycling is brilliant for your body and your mind. It strengthens your heart, builds endurance, and keeps you fit, but more than that, it’s a way to de-stress and feel good.
“There’s something truly special about how a ride can leave you feeling recharged and ready for whatever comes next.”

Head of Brand Marketing at Le Col, Rob Jarman, explained: “Cycling improves cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, enhances joint mobility, and boosts endurance, while also reducing stress and improving mental well-being through the release of endorphins.”
Cycling for long distances is an excellent way of burning calories and reducing excess fat.
On average, somebody who weighs around 14 stones would burn 192 calories if they cycled for 15 minutes.
Former Welsh Rugby Union player, turned triathlete Alix Popham, said to GB News: “Cycling is an effective aerobic exercise, it aids in weight management by burning calories and helping individuals maintain a healthy weight.
“Cycling offers a wide range of health benefits, making it an increasingly popular activity. It significantly enhances cardiovascular health by improving circulation, reducing blood pressure, and lowering the risk of heart disease.
“Additionally, cycling builds and tones muscles, especially in the lower body, promoting overall physical strength.
“Importantly, cycling is low impact, which means it minimises strain on joints, making it a suitable activity for people of all ages and those with joint concerns.
“Beyond the physical advantages, cycling boosts mental well-being by reducing stress, alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety, and improving mood.”

Working out where to start cycling can be tricky as to what methods to take.
Yanto Barker recommended: “Cycling is simple, just get out there. Whether it’s joining a local group, setting small goals, or simply hopping on a bike for fun, cycling is for everyone.
“Start at your own pace, enjoy the journey, and watch how it transforms not just your fitness, but your mindset too.”
Your diet though is just as important as physical exercise when losing weight. It was revealed recently how much protein to eat at every meal to boost metabolism and preserve muscle.
