Britons have “had enough” of the “childish” spat between President Trump and Sir Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch has told GB News.

The Conservative leader said that only Iran and Russia benefitted from apparent breakdown in the personal relationship between the US President and UK Prime Minister.

She said it was time to focus on the positives, notably the visit by the King to America next month ahead of the USA’s 250th birthday.

Ms Badenoch told GB News: “Look at it – the White House and Downing Street just having this spat. Who benefits? It’s Iran, it’s Russia. I’m not Sir Keir Starmer’s biggest fan – I think your viewers know that. I think he does a lot of things wrong. Look at him yesterday at Prime Minister’s Questions.

“And I think some of Donald Trump’s criticisms are fair. But we’ve had enough. It’s going on too long. And that’s what I mean. That spats itself is what is childish.

“Donald Trump says a lot of things that I agree with – let’s drill in the North Sea. He says a lot of things that I disagree with – trade towers, for example.

“The special relationship is between the UK and the US, not Donald Trump and Keir Starmer. That’s why we’ve got the king going for a state visit.

“We want to maintain our relationship with our closest ally.

“They defend this country in ways that many, many citizens have no idea of – sharing security and defence intelligence that has kept this country safe.

“I do not want to jeopardise that because Keir Starmer is making a mess of things.”

Mrs Badenoch was speaking after her local election launch in central London when he told a crowd of 200 activists that the “Conservatives are back”.

In her interview she said: “We are now in a multi-party system. Things are changing.

Kemi Badenoch told Christopher Hope she is ‘spring cleaning the Conservative Party’

“The political landscape is fragmented, and I am spring cleaning the Conservative Party.

“That means we’re starting with new leadership, new policy, new direction, new ways of behaving. That’s what I’m taking out to the public.

“Many of them haven’t heard it. This is my opportunity to let the public know that if you vote Conservative, you’re going to be getting great policies.”
