Households struggling with energy costs could get a major boost this month through a new nationwide giveaway.

More than 1,000 customers will receive money off their bills, with one person set to win free electricity for an entire year.

British Gas has unveiled its largest membership giveaway to date, offering more than 1,000 households the opportunity to reclaim money on their energy bills throughout May 2026.

The energy supplier’s Win Your Bill competition will distribute prizes totalling in excess of £33,000.

A total of 1,001 members stand to benefit from the promotion, with weekly prize winners each receiving around £31.50 towards their bills.

One fortunate participant will claim the top prize: twelve months of complimentary energy valued at £1,641.

The initiative forms part of British Gas Membership, a complimentary rewards programme introduced in 2025.

The draw structure sees 1,000 participants selected each week to receive approximately £31.50 credited to their accounts.

Beyond these weekly prizes, a single grand prize winner will secure an entire year of free energy, a benefit calculated at £1,641.

This represents a dramatic expansion from British Gas’s inaugural Win Your Bill competition held earlier in 2026, which awarded prizes to just three customers.

The company has increased both the winner count and the overall prize pool, with the total value now exceeding six times that of the original draw.

British Gas states the enhanced giveaway aims to assist more households managing their energy expenditure.

Participation in the draw is open to British Gas energy customers who have registered for the free membership scheme and opted in via their personalised membership wallet.

Email invitations are also being sent to eligible members inviting them to take part.

The free membership scheme is open to homeowners, tenants and landlords, with online registration taking just a few minutes to complete.

Members also gain access to ongoing discounts tailored to their circumstances, covering annual services, emergency repairs and Hive smart home products to help with unexpected household maintenance costs.

Mark Berryman, Chief Commercial Officer at British Gas, said: “We’ve helped customers save over £2million since launching British Gas Membership last year, and we are proud to build on that by giving even more members the chance to win.

“At a time when household bills continue to be a significant expense for many, we know people are looking for practical ways to save. This month alone, more than 1,000 people will see money back on their energy bills.

“These monthly prize draws sit alongside the exclusive discounts already available in the membership wallet, from savings on boiler repairs to great deals on Hive products, ensuring our members can access some of the best value and support all year round.”
