British Gas is giving away £1,748 worth of free energy every month to one customer through its “Win Your Bill” prize draw.

The giveaway covers the equivalent of a full year’s gas and electricity based on average UK household consumption.

Customers hoping to win this month’s prize must sign up to the supplier’s free membership scheme and enter before 11.59pm on February 28.

The draw is open to those who are already British Gas energy customers when the competition closes and are aged 18 or over.

The prize is paid either as a £1,748 PayPal payment or as bill credit applied directly to the winner’s energy account.

A spokesman for British Gas said: “To become a member, you simply need to be a British Gas customer and register for the free membership.”

The membership scheme is free to join and registration can be completed through the company’s website.

Once signed up, members can access the latest prize draws through their online membership wallet and receive email invitations inviting them to take part.

The scheme is open to homeowners, tenants and landlords, provided they hold a British Gas energy account.

Members are also offered tailored deals, including discounts on services and emergency repairs, which appear in their membership wallet.

The membership programme launched in 2025 with the aim of providing new and existing UK customers with access to exclusive savings and perks.

According to parent company Centrica, members received more than £1million in discounts and prizes through the scheme last year.

The prize draw comes as Centrica reported that annual earnings at British Gas nearly halved during what the company described as a “challenging” year.

Centrica posted underlying operating profits of £814million for the last year, compared with £1.55billion in 2024.

Despite the decline in profits, the company said it grew its customer base across its retail businesses for the first time in more than 10 years.

UK and Ireland household customer numbers increased by one per cent to 7.96 million.

Other suppliers are also offering incentives aimed at encouraging customer engagement and shifting energy usage.

EDF operates a Sunday Saver scheme which rewards households that reduce their energy consumption during the week with free energy at the weekend.

The initiative is designed to encourage customers to move their usage away from peak periods.

Ovo Energy runs a rewards programme called Power Move, offering customers the chance to receive up to £2,000 in free energy.

Under that scheme, customers whose peak energy usage remains below 15 per cent for the month are automatically entered into a prize draw.

Several suppliers, including British Gas, EDF, E.ON, Octopus Energy and Scottish Power, also provide grants to customers who are experiencing financial difficulty.
