A British brand has unveiled a revolutionary new electric vehicle that could redefine the sector, with production set to begin soon.

Longbow, a British electric sports car company, has revealed the first glimpse of its Speedster model which it has dubbed the world’s first “featherweight electric vehicle”.

The company have taken the Speedster from a sketch to an “aesthetic dynamic demonstrator” in just six months, around one year faster than traditional manufacturers.

It is designed with the brand’s moniker at the heart, namely its “speed of lightness”. It was first displayed at an event in London.

The Speedster has been described as the definitive “driver’s car” through its lightweight construction and strong performance.

In a bid to live up to its “featherweight” title, the Speedster weighs less than 1,000kg, despite having an electric battery included.

The Speedster has a total weight of just 895kg, making it one of the lightest vehicles on the road with any powertrain.

Despite the light exterior, the electric vehicle has an impressive range of 275 miles, as well as a 0-62mph time of just 3.5 seconds.

The Longbow Speedster starts from £84,995

Prices will start from £84,995 including VAT for the Speedster, while the closed-top Roadster will start from £64,995.

Drivers can register their interest in both vehicles, with reservations available now. Longbow hopes to begin customer deliveries in 2026.

The brand has also confirmed that all Longbow models will be designed, engineered and hand-built in the UK.

Commenting on the launch of the Speedster, Daniel Davey, co-founder and CEO of Longbow, noted that the Speedster had “struck a chord with enthusiasts”.

He continued saying: “It’s a timeless blueprint with a twist, which was exactly what the market was missing.

“Inviting customers to this unveiling was our way of saying thank you. We’re a new company with a new product, seeing their faith and passion for a vehicle we have built is a special feeling.”

Mr Davey praised the fast development of the Speedster, saying that it had “defied convention”, having delivered the demonstrator vehicle in just six months.

He said that the production of the Longbow Speedster portrayed “no truer illustration of our ‘Speed of Lightness’ approach.”

Longbow has also described the Speedster as a “spiritual successor” to British icons, including the Lotus Elise and the Jaguar E-Type.

Despite it being Longbow’s first entry into the car production sector, the British manufacturer said it aimed to reflect the nostalgia and “timeless allure” of classic sports cars.

Several prominent industry leaders joined Longbow in recent months from major brands including Lotus, McLaren and Alpine.
