A teenage boy aged 15 has been charged with attempted murder and carrying a knife on school grounds following an attack on a girl at a secondary school near Norwich.

The stabbing occurred at Thorpe St Andrew School on Laundry Lane, shortly before 10.30am on Wednesday morning.

Staff quickly placed pupils in lockdown within their classrooms.

The alleged victim, also a teenager, has since left hospital after receiving treatment for her injuries.

Norfolk Police said: “The 15-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.”

The force confirmed he has been remanded into custody following the charges.

He cannot be identified due to legal restrictions because of his age.

The teenager is scheduled to appear before Norwich Youth Court on Friday morning.

Norfolk Police added: “Officers will continue to conduct reassurance patrols both at the school and in the area over the coming days.”

The patrols aim to provide support to the school community following the incident.

After the attack, the injured girl shared a photograph from her hospital bed to reassure concerned classmates about her condition.

On social media, she wrote: “I’m just in hospital alive and well.”

In another post, she said: “One minute I’m seeing how my hair looks next second disaster struck.”

A friend posted the smiling selfie on behalf of the alleged victim to let worried pupils know she was recovering.

Thorpe St Andrew School has approximately 1,900 students, with 400 attending its sixth form.

Ofsted awarded the school a good rating last year.
