Bonnie Tyler has opened up on her miscarriage and revealed that she ‘felt blessed to have known she could have been pregnant’.
The Total Eclipse Of The Heart singer, 73, told the Mirror that when she fell pregnant aged 39 in 1976 with her partner Robert, she felt it was the right time to have a baby.
While is was a hard time for the songtress, she explained that she is not the ‘type to dwell on things’ and was back to work the week after.
She told the publication: ‘I did have a miscarriage when I was 39. At that point, it just felt like the right time to have a baby.
‘For the first time, I felt maternal and we stopped all precautions, and it happened straight away. But then I lost the baby, and it didn’t happen after that.
‘It’s weird, but I count myself blessed to have known that I could be pregnant, that I have been pregnant.

‘Robert and I were so sad when it happened, but I’m not the type to dwell on things. The following weekend I was in Paris for a TV show, then I just moved on.’
Born Gaynor Sullivan in Neath, south Wales, in 1951, Bonnie released Total Eclipse Of The Heart on her fifth studio album, Faster Than The Speed Of The Night, in 1983.
After being discovered while she was singing in a Swansea club aged 17, Bonnie went on to sign with the same record label as Elvis Presley.
The Welsh vocalist, known for her distinctively husky voice, also found major success with Footloose hit Holding Out For A Hero and It’s A Heartache.
She also represented the UK at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 19th place overall, after performing the track Believe In Me.
Despite turning 72 last June, Bonnie is still active and touring, with her European tour – beginning in Finland on Tuesday April 9 – in support of her third live album In Berlin, which will be released on April 19.
Speaking in 2022, she revealed that she never gets tired of listening to the sound of her greatest hit, remarking: ‘People often ask if I get fed up with singing Total Eclipse but of course I don’t. I love it’.
After being released in 1983, it spent four weeks atop the US charts and two weeks at number one in the UK and, as well as reaching number one in several countries.

Its music video has also recently surpassed a billion hits on YouTube.
While it may sound like other power ballads typical of the 1980s, the story behind the song is darker than you may think.
The song was written and produced by Jim Steinman, who revealed to Playbill in a 2002 interview that he wrote Total Eclipse of the Heart as a vampire love story.
He stated: ‘If anyone listens to the lyrics, they’re really like vampire lines. It’s all about the darkness, the power of darkness, and love’s place in the dark’.
