Ruben Rodrigues has been rewarded with a new two-year deal to keep him at Bolton Wanderers until June 2028.

The 30-year-old midfielder signed an 18-month contract when he joined on a free in January and Bolton were keen to tie him down after his two goals at Wembley helped beat Stockport County in the League One play-off final.

The Portuguese, who has yet to play in the Championship this season because of a knee injury he suffered against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, previously played for Notts County and Oxford United.

He told Wanderers TV: “When I played with Oxford here it was something I always wanted to experience, to play for Bolton.

“To finally do that and to get the appreciation of wanting me to stay longer is a very nice thing.

“It’s been very good so far. Right now, I have a little minor setback, but hopefully I can be back on the pitch soon and I’ve definitely enjoyed my time here.

“I feel like I’m getting fitter every year and I feel like I’m getting better every year. I hope a bare minimum two more years here and who knows whatever happens in the future?”
