Blaze engulfs 15 tonnes of waste at recycling centre as fire crews rush to scene

A fire has broken out in west London at a recycling centre with 15 tonnes of waste currently ablaze.

Emergency crews have been called to the incident on Johnson Street, Southall.


Crews from Southall, Hayes, Feltham and surrounding fire stations were called to the scene.

Rail services out of London Paddington are currently facing delays while officers deal with the incident.

A spokesman from London Fire Brigade (LFB) said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters are responding to a fire on Johnson Street, Southall.

“The fire is located at a recycling centre and around 15 tonnes of mixed recycling is currently alight.

“The Brigade was first called about the incident at 5.33pm. Control officers have mobilised crews from Southall, Hayes, Feltham and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this time.”

Network Rail confirmed there would be disruption between London Paddington and Reading until 8pm tonight.

A spokesman said: “A fire near near the railway at Ealing Broadway means trains running between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals / Reading may be delayed by up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised.

“Disruption is expected until 8pm.”

All stations between London Paddington and Reading will not be served by the Elizabeth Line.

Heathrow Express services are also currently suspended between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals.
