The Benchwarmers team member’s strategy of frantically tapping clues at random rather than methodically analysing potential links drew fierce criticism from audiences watching the BBC quiz show.
Social media erupted with complaints as frustrated viewers witnessed Laddiman’s haphazard button-pressing technique throughout the two-and-a-half-minute challenge.

The Connecting Wall round presented the Benchwarmers with a grid containing 16 clues that needed sorting into four connected groups within the allotted timeframe.
Rather than examining the items for logical connections, Mr Laddiman chose to tap the clues in an entirely random sequence.
His approach involved pressing buttons continuously without pausing to consider how the various elements might relate to one another.

This frantic clicking continued throughout the challenge as Laddiman persistently selected clues without apparent strategy or consideration.
His teammates watched as he maintained this rapid-fire approach, hoping to stumble upon correct combinations through sheer volume of attempts rather than deductive reasoning.
Viewers expressed their exasperation through increasingly angry social media posts as the random clicking continued. “Those were the most ridiculous tactics I think I have ever seen on the wall,” one frustrated fan wrote online.

“The relentless button-pressing prompted physical discomfort for some watching at home. “Jesus Christ, the button pressing gave me a headache,” complained one viewer.

The Benchwarmers managed to identify just one correct grouping from the four possible categories when their time expired. They successfully linked “Sutherland, Jett, Bakewell and Rivers” as famous Joans.
However, their remaining attempts proved unsuccessful. The team incorrectly connected “Jam, Island, Flow and Cone” as types of tarts, prompting Coren Mitchell to correct them by revealing these words could all be preceded by “traffic”.
Another failed grouping saw them miss the connection between “Collins, Bingley, de Bourgh and Gardiner”, which were Pride and Prejudice characters. The team instead suggested these might be dictionaries or reference books.

They also wrongly identified “Treacle, pop, Manchester and Gypsy” as tarts, when this was actually the correct answer for their first incorrect grouping.
Following the missing vowels round, Ms Coren Mitchell announced the final scores revealed an extremely tight finish.
The Worker Bees emerged victorious with a margin of just one point, securing their place in the competition’s quarter-finals.
The Benchwarmers’ elimination from the tournament came after their disappointing performance in the Connecting Wall segment, where Laddiman’s random button-pressing strategy had severely hampered their scoring potential.
