Jamie Bigg, the Gladiators star known to viewers as Giant, has claimed he was dismissed from the BBC programme after revealing his intention to publicly acknowledge his relationship with OnlyFans creator Taylor Ryan.

The former professional bodybuilder and firefighter appeared on the first three series of the rebooted game show before announcing his departure last week.

“I had to choose between dating Taylor and keeping my job,” he told The Sun, adding that he was “shocked and very saddened about their choice to sack me.”

In a statement to the Daily Mail, he explained: “I made it clear that I was planning to go public with my relationship, including the fact my partner works as an OnlyFans creator, and shortly after that I was told I wouldn’t be continuing on Gladiators.”

Giant alleged that producers presented him with an ultimatum: end his relationship or lose his position on the show.

According to his account, he participated in a video conference earlier this month with representatives from the BBC, production company Hungry Bear, and MGM, which holds the rights to the format and branding.

During this meeting, he was informed there would be “a decision about whether I could appear on the next season”.

Subsequently, he learned his contract would not be renewed, a development he described as leaving him “blown away.”

“What I do want to make clear is this wasn’t a decision I made to step away,” he wrote on Instagram when announcing his exit. “I was faced with a choice that didn’t align with my values.”

Giant claims he was informed by producers that making his romance public could potentially be “providing an access to adult content for children”, an assertion he dismissed as “absurd”.

The television personality expressed disappointment with how the situation was handled by the broadcaster.

“One of the most disappointing things is that all I’ve tried to do is be a good person and a good role model, and the BBC haven’t been either of those things,” he stated.

He added: “Essentially, I don’t want to work for people like that either.”

When first announcing his departure on social media, Giant emphasised his commitment to authenticity, writing: “I stand by my people and I stand by what I believe in. That’s what being a role model means to me.”

Despite the circumstances, Giant expressed admiration for his partner and appreciation for his time on the programme.

“My partner is an incredible person, and I have huge respect for everything she does – I’m proud to stand by her,” he declared.

He also acknowledged the opportunities the show had provided, stating: “I’m grateful to the BBC and everyone involved in the show for the opportunity and the experiences I’ve had. Now, my focus is on the future.”

A Gladiators spokesperson told GB News: “After three formidable series, Giant is leaving Gladiators.

“We’d like to thank him for everything he has contributed to the show and wish him well for the future.”
