A new Netflix movie starring Rory Kinnear as Burnley entrepreneur Dave Fishwick has hit number one on its streaming charts over the weekend.
The film, Bank of Dave 2: Loan Ranger, is a sequel to 2023 hit Bank of Dave, the latter based on his battle starting up a new bank and given the full Hollywood treatment – and that is also currently back in the top 10 chart.
Loan Ranger sees Dave this time take on the payday lenders which was the subject of an award-winning documentary he made for British television a decade ago.
We went on the road with Dave the year that documentary was released for a behind the scenes look at what was driving his popularity in the local community.
Ever since, This is Money and Dave have remained friends and he is still our business doctor, and will be reviving the role in the coming months after a hiatus while the movie was being made and promoted.
In a special segment of the This is Money podcast which you can listen to below from 45 minutes and 30 seconds in, Dave in his infectious enthusiasm explains to editor Lee Boyce that despite the current financial doom and gloom, this year is going to be a good one.

He also reveals he has a musical in the works, gives us an update on whether there could be a Bank of Dave 3 and provides a behind the scenes look of the new movie.
He says that: ‘If a lad from Burnley with no qualifications can build six businesses and teach himself how to buy and sell decent, ethical stocks, then anyone can.
‘You’ve just got to have self-belief to make things happen, along with common sense and decency. If you start believing in yourself, then other people will do to.
‘Some people will watch the movie and think, if Dave can make it happen, then I can make it happen. I’m going to apply for that new job, ask for that pay rise, start that small business. I’m going to do that thing I’ve been waiting to do the last few years.
‘Let’s just make it happen. You should have the courage to follow your dreams.’
You can watch Bank of Dave 2: Loan Ranger on Netflix now, along with the original Bank of Dave film.
Additionally, a remastered version of his documentary Loan Ranger will be available on the streaming service from Wednesday.
