She is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke Keaton.

The celebrated actress shot to fame in the 1970s with her role as Kay Adams in The Godfather trilogy.

The Godfather, released in 1972, was based on the novel by Mario Puzo.

However, Ms Keaton did not read the book before auditioning for the role, telling People in 2022: “I think the kindest thing that someone’s ever done for me … is that I got cast to be in The Godfather and I didn’t even read it. I didn’t know a single thing.

She was known for her starring in several other hit films, including Father of the Bride, Annie Hall and First Wives Club.

Ms Keaton received a number accolades throughout her career.

She won an Oscar for Woody Allen’s influential film Annie Hall and became associated with the title character’s menswear-centric wardrobe.
