I can easily reel off the losses that stuck with me in the Six Nations, as they can take you to a really dark place at times.Scotland 2000, Ireland 2001 and France 2002 – they all still hurt.It is important now to take stock and remember that this will happen again at some point before the 2027 Rugby World Cup.England will lick their wounds after yet another crushing defeat by Scotland, but even if a potential Grand Slam has gone, they still have a championship to play for.The chance to win a Grand Slam does not come around very often,…
A furious row has erupted in the Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby after plans to permanently close the town’s historic Cliff Lift prompted huge protests, a 6,000-signature petition and intervention from the local MP.Around 70 campaigners braved the rain and strong winds on February 12 to demonstrate at the 1931 lift on North Terrace, which has been out of action since 2022 due to corrosion and water ingress. Now Alison Hume, MP for Scarborough and Whitby, has urged North Yorkshire Council to rethink proposals to decommission the structure, branding the town a “golden tourism goose” that deserves investment, not cuts.”The Whitby…

A sharp rise in joblessness among young people has pushed Britain to an unwanted milestone. For the first time in a quarter of a century, the UK now has a higher youth unemployment rate than the European Union.Figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development show unemployment among 16 to 24 year olds climbed to 15.3 per cent in the three months to September. That puts Britain above the EU average of 15 per cent. Comparable records stretch back to 2000, and this is the first occasion the UK has been worse.Bank of England rate setter Catherine Mann said…
