Children’s author Julia Donaldson has revealed the title of her much-anticipated new Gruffalo book, in an interview with Radio 4’s Today programme.

Gruffalo Granny – the third in the popular series about the fictional beast and his family and friends – will be released in hardback and audio book on 10 September.

“I’ve had this idea for the best part of two decades, but I’ve just been so busy writing other things,” Donaldson told Today.

“And now of course I’m a granny myself, so maybe that’s what spurred me on.”

Illustrator Axel Scheffler – who works alongside the author – said the new book came as a surprise. “I’ve been saying for more than 20 years there won’t be a sequel, and it’s taught me to never say never,” he added.
