An asylum seeker has been found not guilty of the rape of a woman and a charge of voyeurism.

Mubarak Ibrehim, who is living at an asylum hotel in Southsea, Hampshire, was on trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

He was accused in connection with the incident on June 11, 2025 which happened at the rear of the building where the case was being held.

The prosecution said the complainant had accused Mr Ibrehim of raping her and filming the incident on his mobile phone.

However, the defendant maintained the sex was consensual and the complainant had “led” him to the vehicle entry bay of the court building where they had sexual intercourse.

Mr Ibrehim said: “She took my hand and pulled me there, she led me.”

He continued: “I was asking ‘Where are we going?’ When we approached the corner she was pulling me, I found it strange and thinking “Where is she taking me?'”

Mr Ibrehim denied forcing himself on the complainant, adding: “She consented and she was taking my clothes off.”

He added that he messaged her the next day with his mobile phone and said that he would not have done so if he believed something had been wrong about the previous night.

Mr Ibrehim told the jury that he was from Darfur in Sudan and said: “Since I was born, there was war in my country.”

He said he arrived in the UK unlawfully on a small inflatable boat from France in October 2023.

The 25-year-old told the court he was seeking political asylum from Sudan.
