Warrington say centre Arron Lindop’s knee injury is not as bad as coach Sam Burgess initially feared.

The 20-year-old was hurt in the narrow victory over Catalans Dragons last Thursday in what was only his second game back after a 12-month lay-off with a knee injury.

Head coach Burgess was concerned after the game that it could be a recurrence of that anterior cruciate injury, but scans have revealed it is a less serious medial collateral ligament injury, and Lindop is expected to return in six weeks.

“Following further assessment, we’re pleased to update that Arron Lindop’s injuries are not as severe as first feared,” the club said in a statement.

“The centre has sustained injuries to both his medial knee ligament and ankle ligament, with an estimated recovery time of approximately six weeks.”

Burgess was unhappy with the tackle from Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet that led to the injury, describing it as “very ugly”.

The Catalans man was put on report for the incident.
