Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted kidnap of a woman.

The woman was walking on Central Park Way, Wigan, between 06:05 and 06:20 GMT when she was grabbed and threatened, and a man attempted to force her to go with him.

The victim managed to get free and to a place of safety while the suspect fled, Greater Manchester Police said.

Officers are urging anyone with information on the incident to contact the force. It described the suspect as a white male, about 6ft 1in (1.85m), wearing grey joggers, black trainers, a yellow hi-vis vest and a black beanie hat.

Det Sgt Andrew Partington said: “Whilst we understand incidents of this nature are concerning, I want to reassure our communities that we take reports of this nature very seriously and the safety of the public is our top priority.

“Our officers are taking every measure and following multiple lines of enquiry to investigate the circumstances of this incident.”

He added there were “extra patrols in place around the area”, adding officers would support members of the public if they had any concerns.

Officers are urging anyone with information, or those with CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact the force.
