Television personality Anna Williamson has shared what she describes as her most cringe-worthy celebrity encounter, revealing she accidentally sprayed pea risotto across King Charles’s face during a reception at Highgrove.

The Celebs Go Dating relationship expert made the confession while appearing on Joe Marler’s podcast.

The former England rugby star posed the question: “What is your most embarrassing celebrity encounter?”

Ms Williamson, a longstanding ambassador for the King’s Trust (formerly the Prince’s Trust), admitted she had several contenders but said: “One of them that springs to mind involves our monarch, the King.”

Recounting the fateful meeting with the then-Prince of Wales, Williamson described how she panicked over the correct way to greet royalty.

“You can do a variety of things that are respectful, but I did all of them at one go: a curtsey, a bow, a handshake,” she explained.

The combination proved disastrous, as she lurched forward with a mouthful of risotto.

“I then fell forwards with the risotto, spat risotto in the King’s face, curtseyed but stumbled on the paving slab, fell into him so he had to sort of push me back up again,” she recalled.

Having committed to every greeting at once, she ended up collapsing into the monarch and, as she put it, “had to be pulled off him.”

Despite the chaos, Ms Williamson said the atmosphere remained remarkably relaxed.

“Actually everyone was quite chilled,” she noted, adding that it was mainly her companions who found the spectacle hilarious.

She was characteristically self-deprecating about the whole affair, saying: “Fortunately there’s one person that can take the p*** out of myself and that’s me.”

The monarch himself stepped in to help steady her, with security also lending a hand. “He did himself offer to collect me and stand me back up again with security, but it was how I broke the ice with the King,” she laughed.

Mr Marler responded: “That was certainly a unique way of doing that.”

Ms Williamson first made her name in the 1990s as a children’s television presenter, appearing on CITV, Milkshake!, and Nickelodeon before moving into mainstream broadcasting.

She has since carved out a niche as a reality television expert, most notably guiding lovelorn celebrities on Celebs Go Dating.

Beyond her screen work, she is also a prominent mental health advocate, using her social media platforms to raise awareness around the subject.
