Mayor Andy Burnham tells Radio Manchester he still hopes for powers to ban out-of-town taxis

Mayor Andy Burnham has told Radio Manchester he is still hoping to get powers to ban out-of-town private-hire taxis in Greater Manchester.

The government left the issue out of the Devolution bill that passed through Parliament earlier this week.

It follows concerns from councils across England over taxi licensing in Wolverhampton, where the number of taxis handed licences by the city has tripled in the past five years.

Burnham said he was hoping the Lords could intervene on the issue.
