Aljaž Škorjanec has spoken out following a “mass axing” of professional dancers on Strictly Come Dancing.

It is understood, although not confirmed by the BBC, that at least four established dancers won’t be returning to the series in a huge shake-up.

Among those reportedly facing the axe are Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Karen Hauer, Michelle Tsiakkas and Nadiya Bychkova.

The reported departures have been described as a “bloodbath” within the programme’s professional ranks.

Aljaž Škorjanec starred as a pro in Strictly from 2013 to 2021, and re-joined in 2024

The BBC has previously told GB News that official confirmation about this year’s series will be made in due course.

Mr Škorjanec has now commented on his future on the show and the reports surrounding the “axes”.

“I’ve been lucky enough to do the show for a long time, and last year was my 11th season,” the Slovenian dancer and choreographer explained.

Speaking to The Mirror, the 36-year-old continued: “I’ve seen a lot of people come and go.

“It’s always sad to see someone go, but it’s equally exciting to see new faces, fresh energy, and people who bring something different.

“Strictly has always evolved like that. It means the show never gets stale.

“Also, every celebrity I dance with is different every year, so no day is ever the same.

“Whoever is standing next to you, it’s all about them, and they’re always different people. That’s why I love Strictly.”

Delving into his own future, he shared: “We’re all awaiting for the official announcement.

“They don’t announce the names of dancers returning until it’s confirmed.”

He offered his support for show organisers though, stating: “Whatever the Strictly bosses do it’s in the interest of the show, and we always support their decisions.

“So we’ll see who’s back. And hopefully, I’m back.”

While the alleged dismissals haven’t been confirmed, Ms Tsiakkas quit the Strictly The Professionals 2026 Tour not long after the reports.

On Thursday, it was announced the dancer had pulled out of the tour, with a statement from tour bosses reading they were “naturally disappointed.”

A friend of Ms Tsiakkas since stated: “Michelle feels like she’s got a lot to process at the moment. She’s made a lot of personal sacrifices for the show and was in it for the long term.”

Speaking to The Sun, the source continued: “I think she feels like she was promised one thing but has been given something totally different.”

The tour had been scheduled to launch in April before Ms Tsiakkas made her decision to step away from the production.
