A man who was charged with murdering a 26-year-old woman in Manchester has been attacked in prison.

Lawrence Johnson, 26, of Dorking Avenue, was held on remand at HMP Liverpool after being charged with the murder of Alisha Samuels, who was found dead in Newton Heath on 15 October.

Footage seen by the , thought to filmed be from within the prison at the weekend, shows Johnson being attacked in a cell. In the video, inmates can be heard saying: “Bro, you’re getting chopped up. Sit down, bro. Smash him up.”

A Prison Service spokesperson said the social media post was being investigated, adding “violence will not be tolerated in the prison estate”.

The spokesperson said: “Violence will not be tolerated in the prison estate, and this incident was swiftly dealt with.

“Having a phone behind bars is unacceptable and we have ordered the immediate removal of these posts while investigating how this was able to happen.”

Johnson has also been charged with the attempted murder of a man.

A further three men have also been charged on suspicion of Samuels’ murder, Greater Manchester Police earlier confirmed.
