Alex Armstrong and Miriam Cates have paid tribute to The People’s Channel’s loyal audience after GB News secured another major public-voted television award.
Speaking exclusively to GB News Entertainment Editor Alex Davies on the red carpet ahead of the National Reality TV Awards, the pair reflected on the broadcaster’s continued success as it prepared to compete against the BBC, ITV and Sky in the Best News Programme category.
Asked what GB News’ repeated award nominations and victories say to competitors and critics, Miriam pointed to the channel’s popularity with viewers.
“Well, GB News is Britain’s number one news channel,” she said.

“Every time the audience gets a chance to vote for us, we seem to do pretty well. So, there are lots of naysayers, lots of critics out there, but this is a reality TV awards, and GB News reports reality.”
Alex agreed, saying: “That’s actually a really good point. We do report reality.
“We’re in all four corners of the country. We are everywhere now, and we’ve got audiences up and down Britain, and we’re going to be seeing them all in the real world.
“So I think that’s just a testament to what we do. No other news channel does this.

“We are Britain’s number one news channel because we are for the people, always reporting the news they want to hear.”
Their confidence proved well-founded as GB News went on to win the Best News Programme award, marking another significant milestone for the broadcaster.
The latest triumph follows the channel’s fourth consecutive Tric Award for Best News Programme, won just weeks earlier.
Asked what message they would give to those who voted for GB News, both presenters thanked the audience.

“Massive thanks,” Miriam said.
“We wouldn’t be anywhere without our viewers. We just had our fifth birthday, haven’t we? Against all the odds, GB News has not only survived, but it’s thrived, and that’s all down to our viewers.
“The establishment haven’t liked what we’ve done, but the people have, so we’re very, very grateful.”
Alex added: “We’re five years old, four Tric Awards in.

“I mean, the awards keep on coming and we keep on getting bigger and bigger every year.”
He added: “Our lead as a news channel is extending all the time. And that is literally down to the amazing people that watch GB News.
“We would be nowhere without them.”
The People’s Channel presenters also reflected on their own favourite memories since joining the channel.

“I have to say working with Alex as he’s standing right here,” Miriam joked.
“But it is actually the fun we have in the newsroom,” she continued.
“Colleagues, friends. Obviously, you see what you see on air, but we have some good banter off air as well, don’t we?
“It’s just a very relaxed, fun place to work, which is the highlight.”
Meanwhile, Alex said meeting viewers across Britain has been the most rewarding aspect of his role.
“The highlights for me are getting to go out and report in the real world, and GB News audience members come up and say hello to me,” he said.
“There are the most random places you find GB News audience members, and that is one of the most rewarding things we can do, knowing that people at home appreciate what we do.
“The handshakes, the love we get…that, for me, makes it worthwhile.”
