Armed police are said to have escorted Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty through Manchester Airport on Sunday after he received “threatening messages” on his stag do in Budapest.

The 30-year-old was greeted by five uniformed officers who feared he might face physical violence upon his arrival in the UK.

They took him through passport control, the baggage area, arrivals hall and into a waiting vehicle, it has been claimed.

Peaty had been receiving what were described as “increasingly threatening” text messages during his celebration with friends in the Hungarian capital.

The gold medallist, who is engaged to Holly Ramsay, became concerned after receiving warnings that someone would be waiting for him when his flight landed.

Holly, the 25-year-old daughter of celebrity chef supremo Gordon, alerted authorities after her fiance contacted her about the disturbing messages.

She had been celebrating her own hen party at Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire with her mother Tana when he reached out, The Sun revealed.

A source told the newspaper: “Gordon and Tana have been 100 per cent supportive of them in this. They are both brilliant in a crisis.”

Police officers not only escorted Peaty through the airport but also pored over CCTV cameras in a hunt for suspicious individuals.

Security concerns for the Team GB star appear to be connected to a family dispute which has erupted into the public eye after simmering over the past six months.

Peaty’s mother Caroline, aged 59, is said to have been barred from the couple’s Christmas wedding at Bath Abbey.

A friend close to the situation told The Sun: “The issues that have been reported don’t stem from hen do or wedding invitations; it goes so much deeper.”

They claimed the crisis escalated over the weekend when someone “became increasingly abusive and threatening over text”.

Police, meanwhile, were concerned enough that they were forced to head to the airport, the source added.

Another source said there is an “undercurrent bubbling away which no one is aware of” which has pushed the couple closer together.
