In 2014, six years after taking over Manchester City, ADUG entered into a partnership with Labour-led Manchester City Council.

The club and the council already had a close relationship, with Manchester City having signed a 250-year lease for the former City of Manchester Stadium that had been built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

The new joint venture was called Manchester Life and, over a decade, it had a plan to build more than 6,000 new homes through investment of up to £1bn.

To date, about 1,500 homes across nine sites have been delivered, with more currently under construction.

ADUG has also financially supported local community facilities, including the East Manchester Leisure Centre, which opened in 2014.

The area around the stadium was also extensively redeveloped into what is now known as the Etihad Campus, which is also home to the Sky Blues’ women’s and youth teams.

Most recently, Co-op Live – the largest indoor arena in the UK – opened next to Etihad Stadium and became another high-profile development in east Manchester in which ADUG held a significant stake.

Bev Craig, the recently elected Mayor of Greater Manchester, said ADUG had shown a “unique passion” and commitment to Manchester.

Speaking to the in 2024 while in her previous job as leader of Manchester City Council, Craig described City’s owners as having been the “catalyst” for “remarkable” regeneration.
