Police have arrested two men after a teenager was injured in an alleged sword attack near a Catholic school.

St Peter’s High School and Willow Primary Academy in Gloucester were locked down as armed police swarmed the scene along Chalford Road, Tuffley just before 9am yesterday.

Gloucestershire Police confirmed a 17-year-old had sustained a wound “believed to have been caused by the sword”.

Since the incident, a 19-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested overnight on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

Another 18-year-old from Gloucester has also been detained after he handed himself into the authorities.

He has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

The teenagers have remained in police custody for further questioning.

On Friday morning, two males had been spotted chasing down two boys, police said on Friday, during which a 17-year-old teen had suffered a “superficial wound believed to have been caused by the sword”.

The other boy being chased did not sustain any physical injuries while the two suspects fled the scene.

The shocking altercation triggered an urgent manhunt for the pair, one of whom had been believed to be carrying a sword.

Meanwhile, another woman who had previously been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender was released on police bail last night pending further enquiries.

The force has since launched a probe into the altercation while enquiries continue.

LATEST FROM THE SOUTH WEST:

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist with further investigations.

A student called Jimmy from St Peter’s High School, which takes students aged 11 to 18, said the incident was “really scary” and that his heart was racing throughout the shocking incident.

Speaking to the BBC, he recounted how students were forced to stay inside classrooms for two to three hours while emergency services responded to the report.

The school alarm rang out while computer screens showed a message saying: “This is a lockdown.”

The 15-year-old said: “The computers are not accessible at all and we’ve all had to turn the lights off, lock the doors, turn all the blinds down, and we’ve had to get on the ground.”

Alan, who has a daughter at St Peter’s High School, told the BBC he felt frightened despite receiving a text message from his child confirming she was safe.

“I don’t think this should happen at school. Thank God she is safe,” he said.

The force later instructed all pupils to be sent home on Friday while the officers began the manhunt.

Willow Primary Academy is also understood to have been put into lockdown as officers continued to assess the incident.
