From security for its stars and their sign-up fees to big-budget tasks, the show isn’t cheap to produce. It’s been reported that for the celeb series, each one of the 21 contenders is paid a flat fee of £40,000 to appear.

Add the potential £100,000 jackpot for the show and we’re already at a million. And that’s before you add whatever premium Winkleman charges to remain the face of the show.

A final gripe working against The Traitors’ legacy is oversaturation.

I mentioned Love Island earlier. It used to be the highlight of a millennial’s summer. But then bosses saw that success and shoehorned a winter series in.

That flopped, but undeterred, the churn continued. Fans were treated – or punished – with an All Stars version, as well as the lesser-known Love Island: Games spin-off.

Never has one television franchise contributed to the Turkish dental industry so much.

But I fear the same fate lies ahead for The Traitors. We live in a streaming age, meaning American, Australian, Indian, Irish, Canadian, and New Zealand versions of the show are already available to binge on the BBC’s iPlayer right now.
