Jeremy Clarkson has branded Donald Trump “sick” for posting AI-generated footage of himself overpowering a tiger, in the wake of a fatal mauling at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
The 66-year-old Clarkson’s Farm presenter lambasted the Republican leader’s conduct after President Trump uploaded both the footage of the mauling and the AI-generated footage on Truth Social.
“When I heard that someone had been mauled to death at a zoo in Doncaster, my first thought was, ‘Oooh. That’s not a nice way to go,'” Mr Clarkson began in his latest newspaper column.
“My second was, ‘And because he has a family, I shall definitely not be writing about the incident in The Sun this week.’
“But then along came Donald Trump. Now I know he puts his foot in it on an almost daily basis, but to upload some AI footage of him successfully wrestling a tiger is beyond the pale.
“It’s sick,” the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host emphatically signed off.
The incident that led to President Trump’s social media antics involved 23-year-old William Chapman. He lost his life after entering a tiger enclosure at the Doncaster park on Saturday, October 10.
Emergency services arrived shortly after 1:30pm, but the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed he had been visiting the park alone that day.
His grieving relatives paid tribute to a “bright, warm and engaging young man whom his family dearly loved – and William loved them back.”
The family revealed that Mr Chapman had battled “significant mental illness over a number of years” and had been placed on “strong medication” as a result.
They urged the public to allow the proper legal process to take its course, stating: “It will be for the coroner to decide what part this played in his death. We would ask everybody to respect that process.”
President Trump uploaded the actual footage of Mr Chapman’s fatal encounter with Altai, the 440lb Siberian tiger, to his Truth Social platform, captioning it: “Don’t ever mess with nature! President DJT.”
He then posted an AI-generated video depicting himself in a suit and tie chasing down and wrestling the big cat before the pair embrace. The Tokens’ classic The Lion Sleeps Tonight played over the top of the footage.
Moments later, Trump shared a further compilation showing various big cat attacks on people, which itself contained AI-manipulated material. The posts were visible to his 13 million followers on the platform.
The Chapman family issued a heartfelt plea for a stop to the sharing of the material featuring Mr Chapman.
“The publication and circulation of deeply offensive media content is causing them severe distress at an exceptionally vulnerable time. We ask people to stop doing this,” they said.
An inquest into Mr Chapman’s death was due to open at Doncaster Coroner’s Court. Yorkshire Wildlife Park resumed operations on Thursday following what it described as “engagement with the relevant authorities.”
Elsewhere in his column, Mr Clarkson had his say on the “unconscious racial bias” controversy engulfing BBC hit The Celebrity Traitors.
Actress Myha’la, 30, had claimed that “unconscious racial and cultural” bias was prevalent in the game after her banishment earlier in the series.
Mr Clarkson dismissed the Industry star’s claims, branding her and fellow critics as “silly little hotheads”.
