The Duke of Kent, aged 90, joined family members and dozens of young musicians on Sunday evening at Sinfonia Smith Square for a concert celebrating the life of his late wife, the Duchess of Kent.
Future Talent, the charity she co-founded to help gifted young performers from disadvantaged backgrounds, organised the event at the Grade I-listed London concert hall.
Alexander Armstrong, one of the charity’s ambassadors, hosted the evening.
The occasion brought together rarely seen members of the older generation of royals, cousins of Elizabeth II, who spent decades quietly serving the monarchy without seeking the spotlight.
The evening was described as a fitting reflection of the Duchess herself: beautiful, understated, and centred on the young musicians she devoted her life to championing.

His brother Prince Michael of Kent, 84, was at his side throughout the evening.
All three of the Duchess’s children attended: Lady Helen Taylor, the Earl of St Andrews, and Lord Nicholas Windsor.
Two of her granddaughters, Lady Marina Windsor and Lady Amelia Windsor, were also present.
Lord Freddy Windsor, son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, came along with his wife, the actress Sophie Winkleman.
The charity counts Dame Judi Dench, soprano Lesley Garrett, and Sting among its ambassadors alongside Armstrong, and works to provide disadvantaged young people with access to tuition, instruments, mentoring, and opportunities to perform.
The Duchess passed away in September at the age of 92, having established Future Talent in 2004, just two years after she withdrew from official royal duties and turned her back on the formalities of palace life.

The Duke and his late wife were united by a profound shared passion for music, which the Duchess promoted tirelessly over the course of her lifetime.
More than 40 young musicians and alumni took to the stage during the evening, with the Future Talent Orchestra among the performers.
The programme had been thoughtfully curated to reflect the Duchess’s musical passions.
The music filled the rafters of the historic venue, embodying everything the Duchess had championed and fought to nurture throughout her years with the charity.
Armstrong told the packed audience that love was the unifying theme of the evening: “Katharine’s love of life, her love of music, but most particularly, her love of people in all their infinite variety.”
He emphasised that the Duchess was far from a distant figurehead, describing how she relished getting stuck in and staying in touch with the musicians personally: “She would frequently just ring them out of the blue, just to hear how they were getting on.”
Alumnus Adam O’Shea offered a moving reflection: “Chopin, Beethoven, and Debussy. They never truly died, they simply became music. And so, too, Katharine lives on with the music that this great family and Future Talent share here this evening.”

She preferred to go by Mrs Kent and for more than a decade travelled by train each week to a state primary school in Hull, where she secretly taught music.
Her funeral at Westminster Cathedral marked the first Catholic service for a royal family member in modern British history, following her 1993 conversion to Catholicism.
