Chessington World of Adventures has today unveiled plans for the world’s first hotel themed around Minecraft, the bestselling video game in history.
The Minecraft World Hotel forms part of a £50million development at the south-west London resort, created through a partnership between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios, the developer behind the iconic block-building game.
Due to welcome guests in 2027, the hotel was revealed during a live event on Saturday alongside new footage showing construction progress on the wider Minecraft World attraction.
The ambitious project will also feature the planet’s first Minecraft-inspired rollercoaster, themed retail outlets and dining experiences.

Merlin Entertainments, which also operates Legoland, Alton Towers and Thorpe Park, first announced the development earlier this year.
The four-storey hotel will comprise 69 rooms in total, split between 20 premium and 49 standard options.
Designers have drawn on some of the game’s most beloved biomes, mobs and items to shape the interiors, with blocky trees and animals featuring throughout.
Guests arriving at the hotel will navigate corridors styled as mine tunnels, while the lifts have also been given the Minecraft treatment.

A bar modelled on the Woodland Mansion, one of the rarest structures players can discover in the game, will also feature within the hotel.
Construction footage released on Saturday shows tracks already installed for Escape The Nether, the world’s first Minecraft-themed rollercoaster.
The ride will take visitors on a high-speed journey through an indoor section designed to resemble dark mines.

Daisy Mercedes, creative producer at Merlin Entertainments, said: “We promised something truly special when we announced Minecraft World earlier this year, and with Minecraft World Hotel we are offering even more.
“Not only will fans be able to experience the game imagined for real life, but they’ll be also able to sleep inside it, ensuring fans respawn exactly where they want to be.”
She added: “Every room, corridor and detail has been crafted with immense love for this game, the stories made within it and its community.”
Filip Keatley Thoms, creative lead for Minecraft Parks and Experiences at Mojang Studios, said: “We have thought about everything from the scale of the blocks to how mobs and biomes come to life in the real world.”
