Lancashire director of cricket performance Mark Chilton will be leaving the club after more than two decades with the county.

David Thorley, director of women’s cricket, is also leaving as the Red Rose county restructures behind the scenes.

Chilton, a former Lancashire captain, had been in his current role since 2021 and part of the coaching staff from 2014.

Lancashire are set for their lowest ever finish in the County Championship following a poor 2026 campaign.

With one match of the season remaining they are seventh in Division Two and could finish bottom if results go against them.

Thorley held his post since 2020 which included the switch from a regional to a county set-up in the women’s game and during his tenure, Lancashire won both the One-Day Cup and T20 County Cup in 2025.

But this season, they finished bottom of the T20 Blast table and failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the One-Day Cup.

“We all share the ambition of seeing our Lancashire teams win games, progress in competitions and compete for trophies,” chief executive Daniel Gidney told the club’s website., external

“For the men’s side, the County Championship is at the heart of the club’s cricketing vision, while for Lancashire Women, our aim is to consistently challenge for major honours.

“I would like to express my thanks to Mark for his long association with the Red Rose and to David for leading the women’s side through such a transformational period. Their contribution and commitment to Lancashire Cricket over the years is very much appreciated, and we wish them both well for the future.”
