The King and Queen will host the Sultan of Omar for a State Visit later this year, Buckingham Palace have confirmed.

Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will meet King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle between October 20 and 22, following a formal invitation from the monarch.

The news was confirmed by the Palace’s official social media accounts, which said: “His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman will pay a State Visit to the UK as the guest of Their Majesties The King and Queen from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd October 2026.”

The invitation had initially been delivered by then-Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, as the Sultan visited Downing Street in July.

According to the Government, during the meeting Sir Keir “reiterated his solidarity with Oman” and expressed his gratitude for Oman’s mediation efforts, which “contributed to the deal between the US and Iran”.

“They discussed efforts to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and provide shipping with the reassurance needed to transit through the Strait,” notes from the meeting read.

The PM also recognised that Oman’s support was “vital” and the pair vowed to remain in touch.

The relationship between King Charles and Sultan Haitham stretches years.

His Majesty of Oman, 70, visited the King at Windsor Castle in July 2025, during his private trip to the UK.

The pair are said to have discussed the “deep-rooted historical relations between their two friendly nations” and focused on enhanced cooperation between the UK and Oman.

The Sultan had also previously congratulated King Charles on his coronation in 2023 with an official statement.

“His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said has conveyed the congratulations of His Majesty the Sultan to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and President of the Commonwealth on the occasion of his coronation as King of the United Kingdom,” it read.

Sultan Haitham ascended to the throne in Oman in 2020, following the death of his cousin, Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

Then-Prince Charles travelled to Muscat, the Omani capital, and attended the first three days of official mourning.

The Sultan became the 15th leader in the Al Bu Said dynasty, which has ruled Oman since 1744.
