Motorists face several massive law changes being introduced over the coming weeks as September ushers in new rules for drivers.
September will see the highly anticipated launch of new number plates, as well as fresh HMRC charges for petrol, diesel and electric car drivers.
With new rules being introduced over the next month, GB News has rounded up the most important driving law changes in September that could impact you.
Advisory fuel rates
HM Revenue and Customs has confirmed new rates for company car owners that will come into effect from September 1 as part of its quarterly review.
The rates are used to reimburse employees for business travel in their company cars, or if a business needs employees to repay the cost of fuel used for private travel.
Various price changes have been made across petrol, diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) rates, although electric vehicle rates remain the same.

Number plates
For the second time this year, drivers will see fresh number plates on the latest cars to hit the road, with the introduction of the “76” plate.
The new “76” plate, which follows the rollout of the “26” number plate in March, will feature on all newly registered vehicles until the end of February next year.
September is historically one of the best months for new car sales as motorists look to get their hands on the latest plate on the road, although more than 500 registration combinations have already been banned.
Motability
From September 1, Scotland will see the launch of new Motability changes, which were introduced for the rest of the UK in July, following the confirmation of new rules by former Chancellor Rachel Reeves last year.
Following discussions with the Scottish Government, customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland will face new changes when arranging a new lease through the Motability Scheme.
The main changes include slashing the three-year mileage rate from 60,000 miles to just 30,000 miles, while the 5p excess mileage fee will quintuple to 25p.
Former Chancellor Rachel Reeves said the reforms to the Motability Scheme were part of a wider aim to save over £1billion over the next five years.

Silvertown Tunnel
Motorists using the crucial Silvertown Tunnel under the Thames between Silvertown and the Greenwich Peninsula will see daily costs rise from September 21, 2026.
From this date, off-peak charges for cars and small vans will rise from £1.50 to £1.55, while peak and online charges will increase from £4 to £4.20.
Transport for London said charges to use the route were necessary to manage traffic levels, repay costs for building the tunnel, and maintain and operate the Silvertown and Blackwall tunnels.
