Police have charged a man with attempted murder at a hotel used to house asylum seekers in Stanwell.

Armed officers were dispatched to the Stanwell Hotel, near Heathrow Airport, on Saturday evening over reports a man had been stabbed, Surrey Police said in a statement.

Paramedics took the victim, a hotel staff member in his 30s, to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is now in a stable condition, police wrote in the latest update.

Police said that 22-year-old Somali national Abdifatah Yusuf Adani remains in custody and is due to face one charge of attempted murder when he appears at Staines Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

“There remains a heightened police presence in the area,” the police said in a statement shared on Sunday night.

Earlier on Saturday, Detective Superintendent Kate Hyder of Surrey Police said “we understand this incident has caused concern within the local community, and I encourage you to speak to local officers.”

Police said they are not pursuing anyone else connected to the incident.
