Despite his desire to leave, Savinho has been included in City’s initial 28-man squad for their pre-season tour of Asia.

The youthful squad includes senior players who suffered early exits at the World Cup and those who did not take part, including Phil Foden and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

One notable absentee is Jack Grealish, whose loan spell at Everton last season was cut short in January when he suffered a stress fracture in his foot.

The 30-year-old is yet to return to full team training, but recently shared on social media that “hopefully not long now till back training for good”,

On Tuesday Grealish shared a video of him training in Majorca.

New City manager Enzo Maresca worked with Grealish when he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant during the 2022-23 treble-winning season.

“I have a good relationship with him [Grealish] and since I left we’ve been keeping in touch. He has a big heart and is a very good guy but we’ll see what happens,” Maresca told reporters last week.

England goalkeeper James Trafford is absent from the group as he nears a permanent move to Leeds United.

Players who reached the latter stages of the World Cup have not travelled, including Rodri, who “undergo a short period of rehabilitation” after having back surgery on Monday.

Enzo Maresca’s side will face Inter Milan in Hong Kong on Saturday, 1 August (12:30 BST), before travelling to Seoul, South Korea, to play K League All Stars on Wednesday, 5 August, and then Atletico Madrid on Sunday, 9 August (both 12:00 BST).
