A murder investigation has been launched after a man injured in a stabbing three weeks ago died.

Steven Dossett, 40, died on Saturday after he was attacked on Hale Lane in Failsworth, Manchester, at about 21:50 BST on 19 June.

Four men and one woman, aged between 17 and 45 years, were released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault offences.

Greater Manchester Police said the inquiry had “evolved into a murder investigation” and officers were “continuing to pursue multiple lines of enquiry”.

The force said Steven’s family were “devastated by his loss” and being supported.

Det Ch Insp Anna Barker said: “This was a shocking attack, which has now evolved into a murder investigation following the death of Steven last week.

“His family are being supported by specialist officers at this time, and we are keeping them updated as our work continues at pace.

“While we have made several arrests, we are still appealing for information and would urge anyone who witnessed anything of significance, or has any information relating to this incident, to please contact us.”
