“He’s poured so much dirt and bile and betrayed the country so badly, and has been so rude about William and Kate, that I think in the end the best thing will be that Harry never returns to Britain at all, and I think Prince William will be absolutely foolish to in any way do anything with Harry, because you can’t trust him, whatever you do.

“He and Meghan betrayed the Royal Family, and as my book Betrayal showed, they have absolutely no remorse at all, and so I don’t think it’s for the good of Britain or the British royal family to have any attempt to have negotiations or discussions with Harry, because he’ll just continue to betray them and betray not only them as people, but any conversations they have between each other.

“You just saw over the last few weeks the way that Harry just topsy-turvy keeps on changing his mind about whether he’s coming to Britain, whether he’s bringing Meghan. They are a desperate couple anxious for money and recognition. They found themselves at a dead end, and the one thing that Prince William doesn’t need now is any contact with his estranged brother.”

He added: “You could have reconciliation if Harry and Meghan wanted, but they’re the ones who have demanded apologies, they’re the ones who wrote in their books, and said in their interviews the most dreadful things about how William had treated them, and how they had been ostracised, and how Kate had made Meghan cry, which, of course, is untrue, and all the rest.

“The point is that the Royal Family works terribly hard, despite their illnesses. Both Charles and Kate have done an amazing amount of work for the good in Britain. They don’t constantly seek headlines about going to visit hospices and hospitals and all the amazing work they do. And Harry comes, meets a couple of people here, and makes a great hoo ha out of it.

“Prince William, quite rightly, can think to himself, I’ve done nothing wrong. I’m the one who’s been wronged by Harry. Harry, in his book, wrote the most dreadful things about William. All the images you have of them being great pals as young men, as children, have all been completely rubbished by Harry and his million pound book.

“And so I don’t think it’s for the Royal Family to offer an olive branch, they’re the ones who are holding the fort, it’s Harry who should come here begging for forgiveness.”
