Lady Louise Windsor’s official surname was confirmed during her graduation ceremony at the University of St Andrews today.

The 22-year-old collected her degree from the University of St Andrews at around 10.30am, after completing four years of study in English and International Relations.

The graduation ceremonies at St Andrews began on June 29 and will conclude tomorrow, with Lady Louise among today’s successful graduates.

But, in footage shared online by the university, eagle-eyed royal fans have noticed that she did not go by her traditional name.

Instead, as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s daughter entered the stage to collect her certificate, in her classic graduation skirt, shirt and gown, she was announced as “Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor”.

Although Lady Louise has always been entitled to use the surname Mountbatten-Windsor, she has generally been known publicly as Lady Louise Windsor.

Mountbatten-Windsor is the Royal Family’s official surname used by descendants of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

More recently, after his titles were stripped back last year, Lady Louise’s uncle has been referred to as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Following her graduation, Lady Louise plans to embark on a gap year that will combine work, charitable endeavours and travelling before she determines her next steps.

King Charles and Queen Camilla swiftly offered their congratulations to their niece via social media platform X.

“Congratulations to Lady Louise on her graduation from St Andrews University!” the monarch and his wife wrote.

“Lady Louise was joined by her parents, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, as they celebrated the end of her degree.”

Tomorrow brings another significant occasion for the young royal, who will receive her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Her father, Prince Edward, will present the honour at a ceremony recognising hundreds of accomplished young people.

Lady Louise achieved the prestigious award during its 70th anniversary year, a programme founded by her late grandfather, Prince Philip.

This year also marks a notable milestone for Prince Edward himself, celebrating 40 years of his commitment to championing the scheme.

The Duke has long advocated for the award’s role in helping young people realise their potential.

Today, Lady Louise celebrated the occasion alongside her boyfriend Felix da Silva-Clamp, a fellow student at the university, with the pair sharing an embrace during the festivities.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were present to support their daughter, posing for official portraits to commemorate the achievement.

New photographs released to mark the day showed Lady Louise proudly holding her degree certificate, featuring St Andrews’ distinctive gold logo on a navy blue case.
