Manchester City have confirmed the signing of England forward Beth Mead on a free transfer from Arsenal.

The 31-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with the new Women’s Super League champions after leaving the Gunners when her contract expired in May.

She has 81 caps for her country, was part of the Lionesses side that won back-to-back European Championships in 2022 and 2025, and also scored for England against Ukraine on Tuesday.

“It was a no-brainer for me,” said Mead. “I think the way City play suits me really well and can get something extra out of my game.”

She is set to be joined in Manchester by England team-mate Niamh Charles after City agreed a fee with Chelsea on Wednesday.

Mead spent nine years at Arsenal, winning the WSL, the Champions League and three League Cups during her time in north London.

She was given an emotional send-off during the Gunners’ final home game of the season against Everton in May, but told club media she is ready for a “new chapter” at Manchester City.

“I’m very proud to be here,” she said. “I think this is a place where I can really fit in and help bring a different dynamic to the team.”

City’s director of women’s football Therese Sjogran added: “Beth’s achievements in the game speak for themselves. Winning the Double last season was a special chapter in our history, but it’s one we want to build on in the coming seasons.

“Signing a player of Beth’s quality and calibre can only help that happen.

Mead will bolster a star-studded City frontline that includes fellow England winger Lauren Hemp, Brazil forward Kerolin and WSL player of the season Khadija Shaw, who committed her future to Andree Jeglertz’s side at the end of the campaign.
