Susan Boyle set social media alight on Wednesday by announcing the arrival of a “new era” in a striking Instagram post.

The 65-year-old singer, who became a global phenomenon after her Britain’s Got Talent audition in 2009, shared a series of photographs featuring a dramatic new look.

Sporting a sharp blonde bob, oversized designer sunglasses and a floor-length fur coat over a brown velour tracksuit, the Scottish star was pictured at London’s Metropolis Studios.

Before posting the images, she wiped her entire Instagram feed clean.

Her caption simply read: “A new era starts tomorrow.”

The post rapidly went viral, accumulating more than 54,000 likes as fans eagerly speculated about what the beloved singer has planned for today.

Ms Boyle has been recording her first new material since 2019, having spent recent months working at The Barn Studios and various Glasgow facilities.

The Grammy-nominated artist confirmed her return to the studio last year, describing it as an emotional milestone following her recovery from what she has called a “major stroke” in 2022.

“Today was wonderful, emotional, and everything in between,” she said at the time. “I made my return to the recording studio for the first time in six years, something I was told I might never achieve again.”

She credited her manager Geraldine for supporting her through the recovery process, adding: “But here we are, in my happy place!”

Since her viral debut 17 years ago, the Blackburn-born singer has sold over 25 million records worldwide and secured four UK number one albums.

Fellow musicians were quick to react to Boyle’s announcement.

Katy Perry left a comment reading: “I dreamt this dream,” a nod to the song that launched Boyle’s career, while PinkPantheress simply wrote: “OKAYYY.”

Fans drew comparisons between the singer’s sleek new appearance and Vogue editor Dame Anna Wintour, with one joking: “Anna Wintour better sleep with one eye open!!”

Others embraced what they dubbed her “Mob Wives” aesthetic, with comments including “Diva alert” and “Thank you for saving pop.”

One enthusiastic follower declared: “She’s about to do what she’s about to do, and she’s about to show what the other girls SHOULDA did.”

The dramatic transformation follows Boyle’s blonde makeover in March, which prompted fans to suggest she was “ageing backwards.”

Beyond her musical endeavours, Boyle has reinvented herself as a social media personality with 183,000 Instagram followers.

The singer regularly shares glimpses of her lifestyle, including outings with celebrities such as Ant McPartlin, Lewis Capaldi and Sam Fender.

She attended the Oasis Live ’25 Tour last year and launched her own merchandise range on her 65th birthday, offering branded clothing and accessories priced between £13 and £50.

Hollywood has also taken notice of the Scottish star. Timothée Chalamet sent her a Marty Supreme jacket and praised her during promotional interviews for the film.

“She dreamt big – she dreamt bigger than all of us,” the actor said on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. “Who wasn’t moved by that? I remember that like it was yesterday.”
