A dog owner required emergency rescue at Leasowe Bay in Wirral on Wednesday after becoming submerged in treacherous mud up to his knees.

The incident unfolded when the man ventured into the thick, deep mud to retrieve his pet, which had become stuck on the beach.

However, his rescue attempt backfired when he too found himself unable to escape the conditions.

According to HM Coastguard, the trapped man called out for assistance, with his cries reaching people nearby.

These bystanders promptly contacted emergency services, remaining at the scene to offer support until professional help arrived.

Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team deployed specialist equipment to extract both the animal and its owner from the hazardous conditions.

Following the rescue, the man was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure, while relatives later collected his four-legged companion.

Paul Ambrose, HM Coastguard Officer in Charge, issued a stark warning to the public: “Please remember if you see a person or animal stuck in mud, do not attempt a rescue yourself.

The coastguard have advised passers-by’s to not try and rescue them and call 999 instead
