King Charles and Queen Camilla enjoyed an exceptional day at the races on Friday, with three of their horses winning.

The royal couple secured victories at two separate racecourses, claiming a pair of wins at York alongside another triumph at Newbury.

Portcullis and Warrant Holder both delivered winning performances on the Knavesmire, while Point Of Law completed the impressive hat-trick further south.

All three horses are trained by father-and-son duo John and Thady Gosden, making it a particularly successful afternoon for the renowned training partners as well as their royal owners.

Portcullis, a colt sired by the celebrated Frankel, had already generated considerable excitement following an impressive debut victory in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket.

Jockey William Buick guided the even-money favourite to success in the Darley EBF “Confined” Novice Stakes, demonstrating once more why expectations remain high for the royal runner.

The task became somewhat easier when main rival Weheedd was pulled up early in the one-mile contest.

Though perhaps not quite as dominant as his Newmarket performance, the result confirmed the promising future ahead for the Gosden-trained horse representing the King and Queen’s racing interests.

Warrant Holder, sent off at 11-4, secured the second York victory for the royal colours in the Support Macmillan Charity Raceday on June 13 Handicap.

The four-year-old travelled well along the rail before taking command in the closing stages, holding off Thunder Run by a length at the line.

The gelding had shown consistency throughout his previous campaign and produced an impressive display with a tongue-tie fitted for the first time.

At Newbury, Point Of Law improved on his runner-up finish at Yarmouth to land the Coolmore City Of Troy EBF Maiden Stakes as the 4-7 favourite.

The Gosdens previously tasted success in the same Newbury contest back in 2019 with Logician, who went on to claim St Leger glory later that season.

As the memorable afternoon of racing unfolded, the King was present at the Royal Windsor Horse Show alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

The prestigious equestrian event, featuring show jumping, driving and endurance competitions, continues through to Sunday.

Windsor Castle’s private grounds are opened to the public exclusively during this annual showcase, which culminates with the Rolex Grand Prix on the final day alongside military displays and showing classes across four arenas.
