Boy George has broken his silence after his Eurovision 2026 journey came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night.

The singer appeared as a guest performer on San Marino’s entry, but during last night’s semi-final, the act failed to make it through to this weekend’s main event.

The former Culture Club star performed with San Marino’s Senhit with their track, Superstar.

The 64-year-old made a theatrical entrance midway through the song, descending onto the stage atop a silver throne whilst dressed in a black suit.

Unfortunately for the ’80s star, the duo finished among the bottom five acts, missing out on a place in Saturday’s grand final.

Taking to X on Wednesday, Boy George admitted he was “sad” as he addressed the snub.

“If you voted for us, thank you so much, I was sad we didn’t get through to the final but my @eurovision experience has been fabulous,” he began.

“I wouldn’t take a minute of it back. Thanks to @senhitofficial and the entire San Marino delegation. What a fun bunch.

“We will perform together in Milan in July. At the @RealCultureClub show. #funk #love #Italy.” (sic)

Reaction on social media was sharply divided following the performance.

Critics on X were particularly harsh about the performance, with one viewer commenting: “I quite like this but the addition of Boy George is pointless and he sounds bad.”

Another wrote: “He did absolutely f*** all. Most pointless guest spot ever.”

A third declared: “Boy George ruins that song… What’s the point of him? Awful vocals.”

“Can anyone tell me what Boy George did? Please,” another echoed.

Another X account shared: “I actually can’t stop laughing at San Marino quite literally wheeling out Boy George to represent them at #Eurovision for 1/8th of a song.”

However, fans of the Culture Club icon expressed their disappointment at the result, with one stating: “Saddened Boy George out, thought it was a great song.”

Another penned: “I’m so sorry, I’m very disappointed! No Eurovision for me next Saturday!

“Anyway, you were stunning and the excitation to watch you on TV is still the same since I was a young girl! You will always be my ‘Super Star!'” (sic)

“Amazing amazing! No matter what the haters say he has legions of fans around the world,” another praised.

Boy George’s exit from Tuesday’s semi-final was far from the only talking point on the night.

In the UK, the BBC’s broadcast of the first semi-final came under fire for a series of tech and sound issues just moments into proceedings.

Elsewhere, BBC presenters Rylan Clark and Angela Scanlon also sparked debate with their comments during Israel’s performance.

The grand finale takes place on Saturday evening in Vienna. The Austrian capital was chosen as the location following JJ’s victory last year.

The UK will be represented by Look Mum No Computer and his track, Eins, Zwei, Drei.
