Buckingham Palace have been left furious after Meghan Markle made a not-so-subtle nod to Archie and Lilibet’s royal titles in marketing new products for her As Ever brand.

The Duchess of Sussex unveiled a pair of scented candles priced at £47 each as part of her As Ever lifestyle brand’s Mother’s Day collection.

Signature Candle No506 takes its name from Prince Archie of Sussex’s birthdate of May 6, while Signature Candle No604 pays tribute to Princess Lilibet of Sussex, born on June 4.

The surprise move represents the first occasion the brand has created products directly linked to the Sussexes’ children.

The Duchess has come under fire for the use of her children’s names and titles and, according to Page Six, the Sussexes have also trademarked Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s names, prompting questions as to what else they may do with them.

They are also said to have claimed their emails, social media handles and domain names.

A palace source condemned the marketing approach to the outlet, saying it is “an outrageous use of their titles”.

The source also noted the late Queen Elizabeth II never intended for the Sussex family to profit from their official royal titles.

The Duke and Duchess famously agreed not to use their royal titles publicly after departing from their roles as working royals in 2020.

The candle inspired by six-year-old Archie features notes of ginger, neroli and cashmere, with the ginger appearing to be a playful nod to the young prince’s red hair.

According to promotional materials, this fragrance promises to bring “a warm, comforting scent” that creates “a soft, familiar ease into the room.”

The second candle, honouring four-year-old Lilibet, incorporates amber, water lily and santal, with the water lily serving as an obvious reference to her name.

This lighter, floral scent is described as bringing “a sense of brightness and openness to the home”.

A source close to the Duchess insisted she has been “very tasteful” with her use of the children and has Prince Harry’s full support.

The Mother’s Day collection has been promoted through gift boxes sent to select American influencers.

The £115 gift sets include the candles alongside chocolates from Los Angeles brand Compartes and specially designed matchboxes.

In a handwritten letter included with influencer gift boxes, the Duchess explained: “I developed the scents over the last year so that every note melded together to take me right back to a special memory with them.”

Meghan told Town & Country: “The goal for As ever has always been finding ways we can bring beauty and ease to your life, as a host, as a guest, as a friend, as a mum. In whatever way you show up, I want As Ever to make it feel special.

“It began with a pot of jam, and a collection for your kitchen, and now we are excited that the collection will soon expand into other parts of your home. It’s a very special time, and I’m proud of what we are creating.”

The collection arrives ahead of Mother’s Day, which is celebrated in the United States on May 10.

Meghan has been contacted for comment.
