Marks & Spencer has recalled its Authentic Greek Yoghurt with Vanilla after discovering it may contain undeclared gluten, posing a serious health risk for those with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity.

The 500g pots carry a use-by date of 12 May 2026 and should not be consumed by anyone affected by gluten-related conditions, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has warned.

Those suffering from coeliac disease—an autoimmune condition where gluten triggers the body to attack its own intestinal tissue—face particularly serious consequences from consuming the mislabelled product.

The retailer has contacted allergy support organisations to alert their members and is displaying notices in all stores selling the item.

Shoppers affected by the recall will receive a full refund when they return affected items to their local store

Symptoms of gluten intolerance can include digestive problems, bloating, fatigue and stomach pain, typically appearing within hours of consumption.

Meanwhile, Aldi has taken swift action to remove The Fishmonger Hot Smoked Salmon Fillets Honey Roasted from its shelves following a significant labelling mistake.

The 180g packs display a use-by date of 25 June, yet the true expiration falls on 25 April—a discrepancy of two full months.

This error creates a genuine food safety hazard, as the salmon becomes unsafe for consumption well before the printed date suggests.

The budget retailer is placing notices in all affected stores to warn customers about the potentially dangerous mislabelling.

The FSA website provides a critical distinction between use-by dates and best-before dates, noting that the former relates directly to food safety rather than merely quality.

Affected customers should avoid eating the yoghurt and return it for a complete refund

Products kept beyond their genuine expiration date or stored at incorrect temperatures can harbour harmful bacteria and potentially cause food poisoning.

Customers who have purchased the M&S yoghurt can obtain further information by telephoning 0333 301 48555, while those affected by the Aldi recall may contact the retailer’s customer services team on 0800 042 0800 or visit help.aldi.co.uk/s.
