Mike Grady has left his role as head coach of recently-formed Salford RLFC by mutual agreement after less than three months.

Previously head coach of Salford Red Devils’ women’s team for two years, Grady took over as Salford boss on 5 January.

But he has now decided to leave following discussions with the board after experiencing a change in his personal circumstances.

Assistant coach Dave Hewitt will take charge of first-team duties on an interim basis.

Salford say their search for Grady’s successor has already begun and that they aim to “make an appointment as quickly as possible to maintain stability and continue the team’s growth.”

In a statement, the club said it was “Forever indebted to Mike for his unwavering commitment,” and added: “We want to thank him for all his hard work since taking on the role as head coach in very challenging circumstances.”

Grady said: “What we created at the start of the year was pretty special and I’m proud to have built that.

“I’m happy to leave the club in a better place than I found it and wish the club all the best for the future.”

Salford chief executive Ryan Brierley said: “Mike came in as coach at a time when the club had just come through one of its toughest times, with the double impact of relegation and liquidation.

“Mike will always be remembered as the person that strived and achieved the objective of sending out the first Salford team of this new era.”
