Watch the moment Sir Keir Starmer snaps at Tory MP Bernard Jenkin after suggesting his defence approach “smacks of enormous complacency”.

During an intense Liaison Committee grilling, Mr Jenkin pressed the Prime Minister on “when we are going to be prepared”.

As the Prime Minister began to answer, explaining that they are “finalising the investment plan that sits with the Strategic Defence Review”, Mr Jenkin interjected, declaring Sir Keir’s approach “smacks of enormous complacency”.

Snapping back at Mr Jenkin, Sir Keir swiped: “Well this smacks of the fact that for years there was underinvestment by the last Government, and the stripping out and hollowing out of our armed forces.”
