Three men have been charged with attempted murder after a man was stabbed following a “dispute between Afghans”.

A 31-year-old was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition after being found injured on Hawthorn Crescent in Cosham, Portsmouth, shortly before 2.30pm on Thursday.

The man remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition. Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary arrested six men in connection with the incident.

A spokesman from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said the incident took place “following a dispute between two groups of Afghan men in Cosham.”

Arif Ahmadzai, of Albert Road, Southsea and Abdullah Mirzad, of New Road in Portsmouth, both 18, have been charged with attempted murder.

Abdul Shinwari, 19, of Alma Road in Southampton, has been charged with attempted murder and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

All three men have been remanded into custody to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court this morning.

An 18-year-old man from Southampton arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed blade in a public place has been bailed until June 13 pending further enquiries.
