Major road changes have been confirmed for London with almost £100million of funding in a bid to support Sir Sadiq Khan’s safety pledges.
Transport for London will invest £94.8million over the next 12 months to make streets safer with new borough-led projects across all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
Over the last three years, TfL has introduced 170km of 20mph speed limits, as well as 147km of new or upgraded cycle routes.
Sir Sadiq Khan has pledged to support Vision Zero, which aims to reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on the capital’s roads by 2041.
Speaking previously, the London Mayor has praised the development of safety measures, including the Direct Vision Standard and the rollout of 20mph speed limits.
The new funding will develop new cycle routes to strengthen the capital’s Cycleways network, in addition to more pedestrian crossings.
The School Streets project will also be boosted to place temporary restrictions on motorised traffic at school pick-up and drop-off times.
Further measures include plans to reduce road dangers, increase the number of roads with lower speeds and expand micromobility parking.

More than £158million has also been allocated to Healthy Streets in 2026/27 to help boroughs roll out Local Implementation Plans.
Will Norman, London’s walking and cycling commissioner, said he was “thrilled” with the new funding as part of a new three-year programme.
He continued, saying: “We have already seen the transformative impact of new cycleways, expanded School Streets, and lower speed limits helping to reduce road danger across the city.
“This next round of funding will enable boroughs to build on that progress, while supporting the Mayor’s Vision Zero strategy to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries from London’s transport network by 2041.

Funding over the last three years across London has also helped develop almost 17,000 on-street electric car charging points, further boosting provisions for EV owners.
TfL also highlighted that 95 per cent of London’s roads are managed by borough councils, emphasising how critical the additional funding is for road safety.
More than half of London’s roads now have a 20mph speed limit, with around 264km of TfL’s roads having a slower speed limit.
